Maisha Azadi, (Big Life Freedom) was the name of the book of poetry my mother penned in high school. A name she carried with her for another 8 years until my birth, (which I may add, upstaged James Earle Jones’ headlining performance in the play Paul Robeson). Talk about an entrance. My parents missed the theater that night due to my arrival, and I have been finding my home on the stage and screen ever since.
